France to prevent French expansion in the future.

including Belgium was set up in the north.

to piedmont in the south.

Prussia was
given important new territories in the west.

Austria got
Northern Italy.

Russia was
given part of Poland and Prussia was given a part of Saxony, in the East.
ü German confederation of 39 States, set up by Napoleon, was left
unaltered.
Ø The main intention of Treaty of Vienna was to restore the monarchy
overthrown by Napoleon
Ø Conservative regimes were autocratic. They did not tolerate
criticism and dessent, curbed activities that questioned their legitimacy. They
imposed censorship laws to control the ideas of Liberty and freedom.
Ø Freedom of press was one of the major issues taken up by the
liberal Nationalists, against the conservatives.

Ø In 1815, secret societies sprang up in many European States to
train revolutionaries and spread their ideas.

relentless opposition often frightened the conservatives.
